Abstract
Composite materials are increasingly used in civil engineering for their many advantages, including
lightness, strength and durability. They are used in a variety of applications, from structural elements
to flooring and the rehabilitation of old buildings.
To protect the environment and enhance plant resources, an experimental study on the
implementation and characterization of innovative materials is conducted as part of this work. The
material developed is a biocomposite based on epoxy resin reinforced with date pits fillers treated
with acetic anhydride, with two different sizes: 250μm and 180μm. Each size is used at five different
percentages: 5phr, 7phr, 10phr, 15phr, and 20phr. The characterization used include physical tests
such as density and water absorption, and mechanical tests such as tensile testing, Charpy impact
testing, and micro hardness testing.
The results obtained contribute to a better understanding of the physico-mechanical properties of the
biocomposite based on epoxy resin reinforced with date pits fillers. The results show improved fillermatrix
interfacial adhesion and increased hardness and stiffness of the biocomposites. These materials
can therefore be used in civil engineering.
This research opens promising prospects for the development and application of sustainable and
environmentally friendly composite materials in various industries.
